The College of William and Mary Experience
The National Institute of American History & Democracy (NIAHD), a partnership between the College of William & Mary and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, is proud to offer its exciting Pre-Collegiate Summer Program in Early American History to high school juniors and seniors with a deep commitment to learning about the past. Participants have the option of choosing from one of two American history courses offered during both sessions:
- From the Founding of Jamestown through
the American Revolution or - From the American Revolution through
the American Civil War
ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
Students interested in applying should note that a particular background in American history is not required. An open mind, independent thinking, creativity, and above all, a spirit of adventure are the essential ingredients! During their three-week, residential experience, participants in our
Pre-Collegiate Program will:
- Earn 4 academic credits at the College of William & Mary
- Live together in an air-conditioned dormitory on campus
- Take daily field trips to historic places, museums, archaeology sites, and battlefields
- Discuss and analyze history in small seminar groups
- Go behind-the-scenes with curators and archaeologists, and
- Have the option to participate in an active archaeological dig!
